Lesson 5: Position & Location Words

Where is it?

Position words tell you where something is — on top, under, in front, behind, and so on. In Korean, these are little "place" words that go right after the thing you are describing.

The magic pattern is: [Thing] 은/는   [Place] [위치]에   있어요. This means "[Thing] is [position] [place]." The little particle 에 means "at/in," and 있어요 means "there is / it exists."

= "The cat is inside the box." 🐱📦

Let's Practice! 🧸

See the pattern in action — [Thing] 은/는 [Place] [position]에 있어요:

  • 책은 책상 위에 있어요. 📖 "The book is on the desk."
🐶 "The puppy is under the chair."
⚽ "The ball is inside the box."
🐱 "The cat is behind the tree."
