Elementary School - Grade 5
Lesson 6: After an Action
-(으)ㄴ 후에
Expressing Sequence: "After"
You've mastered "before doing..." (`-기 전에`). Now let's learn how to say "after doing..."
The pattern **-(으)ㄴ 후에** attaches to a verb stem to show that one action has completed, and *then* the next one begins. `후` means "after" in Korean.
The Conjugation Rule
This rule is based on whether the verb stem ends in a vowel or a consonant.
Verb stem ends in a Vowel or ㄹ (L)
... + ㄴ 후에
보다 보ㄴ 후에
"After watching"
만들다 만드ㄴ 후에
"After making"
Verb stem ends in a Consonant (except ㄹ)
... + 은 후에
먹다 먹은 후에
"After eating"
읽다 읽은 후에
"After reading"

After eating, I brush (my) teeth.
수업이 끝난 후에 집에 갈 거예요.
